Dr. Peter Schnall and colleagues recently attended (November, 1998) a "triangular" conference entitled Work Related Stress and Health in Three Post-Industrial Settings, held by the Tokyo Medical University. The objectives of this international symposium were to identify and analyze both disease-provoking and health-promoting occupational stuctures and processes and their trends in the three post-industrial settings of The European Union, Japan, and The United States. Many questions were raised, including "What could be acheived through better collaboration and coordination within each setting, and between the settings?", and "What actions should be considered, as an investment in future occupational and public health?". The conference produced a document entitled The Tokyo Declaration which is available to government and public sector agencies as well as partners in industry, labour, health, and academia.
